? on financial record keeping
What is available for monthly financial record keeping?
In the past I have created my own spread sheet and it is no longer working for me. Is there anything available - hopefully for free- that I could use just for record keeping? Mahalo.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

What kind of record keeping are you thinking about? Tracking expenses, debt, mortgage, etc? Tracking investments? Keeping inventories? Tax records? Something else?

Good question - for now I just want to track monthly bill payments.

I swear by Quicken. I've used it since 1995.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I just use a copy book. My monthly expenses really never change except for my car insurance, inspections, etc but I have an savings account for all of that stuff. I like it because I can always flip through it and see what I am spending more on like gas, heat, food, etc and how I am saving more. I put all my expenses down and then what I actually paid. Example heat/electric bill last month was 443.72/450 so it makes me see if my budget is correct or if I have to tweak it some.

Greebo - are you signed up for their 'Mint" program where you give them access to your online banking accounts? If not, is this safe to give them account passwords, etc?

I use Quicken and love it as much as I can possibly love something that forces me to run Windows on my Mac.
There are free applications out there, and someone recommended one a long time ago. If I can find the thread I'll post the link.

Check register software
The other free one mentioned was mint, which I guess is the one you've already ruled out.

I backed off mint when I saw what they wanted, but will still check it out to see if that's a requirement or a suggestion. Mahalo for the link!!

Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable with any web based app that is storing your data or passwords. Companies get hacked and information gets stolen all the time. I only keep financial data on my local machine.

Quicken here. Easey to use. But I do not pay through quicken, I just track through them. I do not want anybody besides me accessing my info. Period.

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"
