    Unhappy state tax refund

I live in VA and work in NC. I am due a refund for NC but the state is basically broke and will issue refunds whenever they can.

I think they shouldn't take any taxes out of me this year to cover for my refund. Hahahaha!! Wouldn't that be nice!

So, I am doing the waiting game. I hope it is soon cause it will be enough to pay off a couple more credit cards.

I am getting closer and closer to my goal.
    Step 1 $207/1500
Step 2 Student loan $160.00 monthly
    Schewels paid
    Step 3 $252/$15000
    Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12
    2 child $50.00
    Step 6 $70,761/$93,000
Step 7 Build wealth & give.

Sinopa - I am so enjoying all of your successes!! Can you change your deductions in NC to 100 or more so they won't take much out at all?

In Hawaii the Governor announced that any refunds will not begin to go out until June or July. Bet there are a lot of people changing their deductions this year!!

It is so unfair when that happens, since we pay taxes in good faith. Unhappily, more and more states may find themselves in that position. I hope it comes soon.

Okay Donna, I missed something, why do you hope what comes soon? Oh, I just got it - you hope Sinopa's refund check comes soon - right? Sorry, it is definitely getting late and I have been up for over 5 hours!!

Okay, we all need to get smarter about our monies. I personally love getting refund checks because I never thought I could/would save if I increased my deductions. But now, I now that I can be in control and will be.

What are you going to do for yourself?

I am going to change my deductions so that they won't be taking much. State tax returns are so strange. I really didn't expect a refund as I thought they were taking out less. Now, $1037 is stuck in red tape. My coworker owes $10 and sent it in with the voucher she printed out. I see why she is happy. She is done with them until next year.

Think that's a great idea. Will you have any trouble making the changes? Seriously, It's like pulling teeth at our school to get anything like this done.

On our local news station here recently, they said that February refunds were going out in a timely manner. But if you expected a refund March or later, there was the possibility of a IOU from the state of NY.
We filed ours the first week of Feb. Got the federal back in about 2 weeks. The state one is not here yet, but when I went online to track it, it said middle of March. Not a large amount but better in our pocked than the state.

This happened last year in Kansas, and again this year - they just made the announcement.... They take out taxes on hubby's regular pay, but we also have to pay estimated quarterly taxes because of profit sharing, so we under-paid the State quarterly estimated taxes in '09 (but put the remainder of the total estimated amount in the bank). I'd rather have to pay them, after the fact, than to wait for them to pay us if we have money coming back.

Like Grainlady, we had to wait last year for our KS refund, while having to pay in MO. It's fun living and working in different states, isn't it?

Yes, a IOU for real in New York, we been threatened with.
Hopefully they can get the state budget to balance here in March and our refunds will come back to us on time.

I see in my other post, I have a typo.
