arrgh bounced a check
aargh i bounced a check. it feels really weird (kinda feel stupid)because i haven't bounced a check in 20 years.
spent an hour at the bank with my ledger figgering out what happened and there it was in my ledger . forgot to subtract 181 walmart for groceries.
fortunately the damage was only one check bounced. whew. off to savings i go to rectify the situation. what an inconvenience.
i am human and make mistakes. this is why we have emergency funds.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Been there, done that, paid almost $250 in stupid tax (cascading bounces).
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Oh well, at least you caught it quickly! I barely use cheques for anything except rent anymore, maybe three or four times a year, so when I do write one, I have to be really conscious to remember it!

I sure hope the bank or credit union you deal with gave you a courtesy credit and didn't charge you those astomonical fees given your history!! I work for a bank and they're usually pretty good at doing that if you ask, assuming you don't have a pattern of this activity (which you obviously don't!). Glad you caught it before it cascaded to a bigger loss.

I hope they paid it for you instead of returning it to the payee. I would also ask for a refund or credit of the fee based on your account history. They should be willing to work with you.
Does your bank offer linking your checking account to a savings account as a means of overdraft courtesy? Ours does--it doesn't cost anything unless a transfer has to be made, then it's 3$, which beats the 34$ NSF/OD fee. I, of course, only recommend this if you have the willpower not to overdraw knowing that the savings cushion is here. I am pretty sure you have that willpower, based on your posts.McD

We do what Mrs. McDowell said, but ours charges 7 bucks to kick it over to our checking...But yes, better than a 35 dollar fee!
This has saved us several times, to say the least.

forunately it was the last check of the month to roll in, so no cascading fees.
they paid it but charged me 25.11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
