visual aids
:thinking: I'm looking for ideas to put our debt reduction progress in some form of visual aid. Like a poster board or... (GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS)
I think it needs to be a moveable point or total that can be seen at a glance and make you think about debt. I'm asking because I think we may be becoming stangnant (bored with) our debt reduction and I'm looking for a little boost.
Any ideas? Computer chart doesn't seem to work for us because one of us can't be bothered to look.

i put my bs 3 progress directly in my ledger in the form of "scotch taped in" deposit receipts and the new account balances. i see them everyday when i enter my debits for the day.
11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Gail on Till Debt To Us Part once blew up a bunch of inflatable Mylar elephants and stuck dollar amounts on them totaling the couple's debt. Every time they paid down an amount, they got to burst a correlating elephant.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Construction paper chain. Each link represents $100's or $1000's - whatever works best for you. String it up in your L/R. When you pay debt down, you get to remove however many links that equals that amount.
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

I swear I used a clip art program to make a chart of dollar bills for my baby emergency fund and I get a sticker for every X amount towards my emergency fund. After I get back on track I'll get stickers for paying down my credit card debt. I also have a chart showing the steps towards some long-term goals which have varied things on them. (eg, get a better paying job, etc).
Staples often has packages of a bazillion tiny stickers for 50 cents on clearance.Go West Young(ish) (Wo)Man,

~I immediately thought of those temperature gauges they use for fundraising just use it in reverse. But I really really love the paper chain idea. It has a real Christmas Carol feel to it.~
