Anyone else have this happen??
I was one of the ones who got "dumped" by Citibank around the turn of the year. I had had the card since about 1991 and kept a 0 balance on it. They stated inactivity as the reason for dumping me.
Fast forward to today-
I am opening the mail and I have a cc offer in there -- Citibank -- it is exactly the same kind of card I had when they dumped me. What is the deal?????? Do they benefit more this way or something?????? The interest rate is something like 15% higher than the interest rate I did have (this is 29, mine was around 15ish) other than that they are the same.
If my inactivity was so unappealing then, wouldn't it still be 2-3 months later??

They don't know, they don't care, they don't have to, they're a credit card company.
They probably got your name off a list of potential customers and sent out thousands of identical letters trying to drum up new accounts. They didn't check it against customers they already have or recently had. They just "spammed" it out.
I get crap from the local internet provider trying to sell me service I already have, twice a month. Morons. What a waste of paper.Use it up, Wear it out,

I canceled a Discover card about a year and a half ago or so - not once but twice they sent me a new card - I never activated them and cut them up.

I've found Discover card to be really bad about actually canceling cards when you ask them to. I have the same problem with them. I figure it's not going to hurt me any to have the credit card open if I'm not using it and continue to cut up the card every time they send me a new one. Needless to say, I have finally given up the fight for them to actually close the card.

We have an American Express card that hasn't been paid on for about a year except maybe 5 payments. They cancelled the card a year ago. They sent an approval letter that if the bill was caught up they would issue a new one with 1/2 the interest rate.
they do it because they can. And you can bet there's a "suck you in" there somewhere. there always is.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Yep--happened here but not with Citibank.
US Bank.......and I have a checking there. They canceled it and I had no clue......when I noticed it had expired and no new card, I called. Wanted to make sure it hadn't been stolen out of my mail box......nope......canceled for inactivity.
Then went in to my bank and they tried to offer another one......gave the guy and earful about closing the other---hurting my credit score---and NOW they want me to take another card! NOT!!

OMG that is a horrible interest rate!! Especially seeing that you carried a 0 balance. I can see why you didn't use it.
I was talking to a friend of mine who is in banking. Back when folks still could get a mortgage or credit line easily she did a LOT of bill consolidation loans. You know that awesome idea of lets get another loan on the house and use it to pay off all the credit cards. That way, instead of bill collectors calling me when something happens, I'll just be evected.
Anyway, she said it was pretty standard for folks to come in with as many as 5 Capitol One accounts, all maxed out. When one account maxed out they would apply for another and so on.

Citi is huge. I have worked as a consultant for CitiFinancial's marketing department. I know for a fact that their marketing department has NO idea what your current account status might be - all they're doing is getting lists of people who are potentials for a new or ANOTHER new account. They send out MILLIONS of fliers in a 'blast' - and if only 1 tenth of 1 percent apply for new accounts, they're happy.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Don't do it LOL...I just closed my Citibank CC account when they informed me that they are now charging $60/yr for it. No thanks.

Oh! I'm not going to apply! I was just puzzled and miffed as to why they sent this after canceling my very same one. We are quite happy with having fewer cc's. I am such a control freak that I prefer making my own choices. LOL! DH should have canceled one today. That will leave his cc and my cc - mostly for business and internet purposes.
