    Not having debt looming over my head would be great but when my beater breaks down being debt-free wont help, even if I just made that last credit card payment the day before. Having that emergency fund built up will. Which is why the DR plan insists that you get that started first. Debt free isn't insurance, in my opinion. You can still blow your money elsewhere even without credit cards.

    I really don't care what plan people use, if they prefer a more gentle approach then by all means. Personally I needed the kick-in-butt approach, it was time for me to stop being "gentle" with myself and get serious about getting out of this mess.
