Default gail vaz oxlade - just discovered a new show!

this started showing here in texas, or i didn't notice it before. what a good show.

have you noticed that the people deep in the debt all have this really nice furniture and expensive leather couches and electronics? it's what i noticed. wow.

the mondo expensive leather couches are what i really notice...

what do you find interesting about the show? what do you dislike?
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I love the show. I like that her challenges tend to focus on the couple learning about each others perspective, teamwork, and communications. It is really thrilling to see them start to lay down goals for 3-5 yrs out when they initially see their debts as insurmountable.

There was one show recently where the husband just did NOT get it. They got NO money and the wife was offered counseling for the abuse she was receiving. Incredible heart wrenching show as hopefully this woman realizes the situation she is in.

I LOVE her!! And I know what you mean...the houses loo like showrooms!

There is one where the wife is so pouty and whiny through the whole thing...she's a supply teacher but turns down work, etc., and they get her on camera saying to her husband that she is only doing the show for the $5K...surprise! They got no money!

Also, brag, she's Canadian. She has books too!

i was flabbergasted by the one where the girl was crying and pouting because she "had to work more than three days a week. whine..."

I watched her show for a long time. I just got too busy, but I still love to get to watch it sometimes. I realize that everyone else she has on her show is way off worse than I am, which is a comfort.

I think her show should be a requirement for all economics classes.

I also watch the show when I remember to look for it. I always find it amazing when the couples seem so shocked when she lays the numbers out to them and how much they owe.

We can't, but it's on CNBC here in the States.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I agree with you. I think Gail wanted to take the woman from the house. The husband was a bully who only cared about what others in the outside world thought of him but treated his wife like dirt.
I'm glad they got $0 - that was the first time I saw that!

Til Debt Do Us Part - love that show!! Love how she divides the money up into glass jars - so visual! I like seeing her tell them their debt & always wonder how they can be so surprised, but even better I like how she shows them how they spent their money esp things like bank fees etc and the cash withdraws that go nowhere. good show!
