Wink How Dave Ramsey Ruined Shopping

So I wanted to share this story because it was so ironic and funny:

I went shopping the other day, to Value Village, with a specific list of items that I have been looking for and thoughtI might find there. And yes, they had a few of them, at fairly reasonable prices.

Yet I still left the store with nothing!

    Why, you ask?

Well, I happened to be listening to DR's audio book as I shopped. So everytime I saw something that fit my list, I would think "Can you really need not live without that right now?" and "Is that going to help you meet your goals?"

I am taking that freakin' audio book EVERYWHERE from now on!!!

It's how you have to shop if you have the future in mind. A friend of mine HATES shopping with me because I will find something I like and walk away from it. She grumbles something every time about "That's why you guys have all this money". HA

That's something I need to keep in mind while shopping. I'm trying to get back to basics by making a list and sticking with it. I also am trying to shop only once a week. If I lived out in the sticks, I would have to!

It had the same effect on my husband. He'd be planning to buy something but then when it came time to actually buy it he couldn't...he'd say "#$%@ that Dave Ramsey, it's all his fault!"

I have not read or listened to Dave Ramsey but sice getting on the frugal band wagon I have many times gone shopping but did not buy anything. Even if I needed something. If I couldn't find exactly what was needed or the price was not right I would just walk away.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

The only problem is: If it's too shiny for a guy to walk away (in other words: the want turns into a fabricated need), it often gets really expensive.
