Proud of my son & his money managing style
Mark graduated college in May '09 and works for a well known Insurance Co. as a sales agent. Since then he's been living on his own, bought a car, enjoys an active social life and drum roll please, paid off all his student loans. Yep, one year out of college. :woohoo1:
How did he do it? He lived in dorms the first 2 years of college and was tight with money he made working when he wasn't studying or "enjoying college life".
The next 2 years he lived off campus with a bunch of friends, again, tight with money he made working while keeping his grades up and "enjoying the college life". He was the only one of his friends who had money in the bank and could be the one who's name the utilities were in. He wanted to create a credit history for himself and did.
He works hard and saves for what he needs, sometimes what he wants and always having a goal in mind. He didn't like having the student debt over his head & that interest he was paying so his first goal was to knock them out. His bank account looks a little sad now but that's only temporary & he said he'll be staying home a bit until he gets some more of that cushion that makes him feel good. His tax return is coming in soon and most of that will go for a forever bedroom set (been living in furnished places) he needs for his next place(moving next month) where he'll be living with a roommate, splitting expenses as he saves for his next big goal, a small affordable home. I have no doubt he'll be in that house in a couple years, no doubt at all. So proud of him!!~*Darlene*~

You've done a good job in raising him to be responsible. I can see why you're so proud of him. Congratulations on a job well done mama!
How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Congrats to your ds!
I was reading on USA Today online, yesterday that only 58% of twentysomethings pay their bills on time. Your ds could teach them a thing or two!

Thanks! You can lead a kid to make good choices where money or anything for that matter is concerned but ya can't make him/her do it.
It really is him, he makes the choices and deprives and rewards himself as he sees fit.

That is great! You have very good reasons to be proud of him because you will never have to worry about him mishandling his money and I know that means a lot to a parent. You can sleep well at night knowing he is taken care of business.

Nice! Would it be worthwhile for him to look into buying an owner occupied multi-family structure so that his house has positive cashflow?
