Mahalo for the update. Bet you all are breathing much better - your choice of doctors sounds wonderful - congrats on finding a supportive one who respects you and your wishes. Sounds as if there will be a lot of guidance along the way. Please keep us updated!!

That is fabulous!! Sounds like things won't be as bad as you all were led to believe.
My twins were a high risk pregnancy (twins, fibroid, fused placentas). I now have two highly intelligent creatures who are great to have around and to be around. I was told all sorts of dire things (especially about the fused placenta), but they were all wrong.
Also, look on craigslist and freecycle for baby stuff. People are always getting rid of stuff. And, this is yardsale season. Yardsales are a great place to get deals.
Also, sign up for Parents as Teachers if they have it in your area. A friend signed up for that and, besides the child development visits, she has gotten free clothes from them. She only really has had to buy socks for the baby. The Parents as Teachers lady drops off bigger sizes and takes away the ones that he has grown out of and then passes those clothes onto the next kid.
If your wife is going to breastfeed and work, I would recommend buying a good pump.
Also, look into child led weaning and elimination communication. And, you know, the baby signs thing is awfully cool. I know when I watch him it is really nice for him to be able to communicate to me since I can't understand his baby jargon.
Cloth diapering is way cheaper than buying disposables. My friend with the baby does a mixture of elimination communication, cloth diapering, and then disposables at night. The only other time she does disposables is when I am watching him because I take him along with us on whatever we have planned for that day. He won't use the potty for me and she doesn't want me to have to deal with cloth diapers while we are out.Beak-1996, Toad-1998, and Q-1998

Congratulations to you and your wife on finding a DR. you can work with. You'll be surprised on how LIFE can find a way thru and against all odds; just ask my 2 kids. My blood DR was amazed when he heard I had a child-healthy and normal. I laughed and said "oh no I have 2". you would have thought I had two heads. I know they would have said NO way today. Luckily we just didn't know any beter. Blessings. Try and keep your stress level down it will only help your wife. And try and keep talking it all out. Sounds like your doing well that way already!!

My wife already is set on doing the elimination communication thing, but I am not 100% sure about it. I guess I'll have to see it in action, but she's convinced it's the way she wants to go. It also seems like it would make toilet training easier. But thank you for the other info, I will look into it when I have time. Right now I'm too busy trying to catch up on housework since my wife is busy sleeping she can't really do as much as she had been.

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"

If you knew me in person, you'd know I'll never truly grow up.
I had my high school reunion about six months ago now. While most people had their stories about 'I work and I have a couple kids." I talked about all the traveling I've done, the places I performed (standup, game show host) and I've sat in the green rooms with people who are quasi-famous. I've really lived a good life so I will have no problems sharing this experience with the little one.
This kid is going to have a good life.
