Default Stupid tax but paid off

Background: Last Dec my DH got mad at the co that made his road box. So, he traded it in on another one. He told me (when I finally found out about it) the payments were $100 for 11 mos. He told me no interest. Okay, what is done is done. So I put it in the budget. It could have gone before some other bills but I wanted him to feel the pain. Well, he felt the pain. After I paid all but the tool bill and the 2 largest bills in BS#2 I started giving him extra to pay down the tools.

Today he calls me for the pay off amount and make sure I have it in the bank for him. He gets with the tool guy and the tool guy says the payoff is 132.69 more than what I thought it was. He doesn't call me yet. They start checking and find out that there was no interest for the first 6mos which ended June 12. DH knew interest started after 6mos and had talked to the tool guy in May about paying later in the month because DH works in the fields and may not be at the shop. Tool guy said it was okay. Problem was that tool guy was not the one financing, snap on was. 132.69 interest for 5days (I know, it was probably backed all the way to the first month but YKWIM). DH was so upset and mad at himself that I couldn't bring up the fact that he told me "no interest" not "no interest for 6mos".

At least it is done. One more step to freedom.

I think it's nice that you didn't rub salt into the wound.
Sounds like he really may have learned something from that, yep it really is important to know all that fine print. Hope he talks to you first, next time he wants to spend money like that, not fair or nice to have you find out after the fact.

And, hopefully, a good communication lesson learned on his part.
