    Default safe deposit question

How likely is it that someone(we will call John) with the info on a sf deposit owning-person(we will call Andy) to get into the safe deposit box? John probably knows SS, birth date, etc.
I have never had a box so I am clueless and I don't think that learning from movies is a good source of info.
If it is important, Andy is in jail.

If the bank is good--very little chance. Both banks that I worked with required a photo id and the safe deposit key.

Ditto what Mrs.McD said. The bank we have ours at requires a that you be listed on the info sheet as someone who can gain access to the box, a valid state or government issued photo ID and the key.

They do not accept work ID badges, school ID's, etc...Just military ID, DL or non-driver ID.

mine (BB & T) requires the key and you be listed on the account. Even if you have the key you can't get in unless you are listed on the account.

You should call your bank and check your rules. You may also ask they put a note on your account to specifically not allow a certain person access unless court ordered.

with my bank you need the key, have to be listed on the account and need to sign in and your signature needs to match the signature they have on file when I opened the box.
