My Dad gave me a check for $1,000!
I saw my dad yesterday and he said he had something for me. He handed me a check for $1,000 and said "happy summer".
I was stunned!
So...what am I going to do with the money you ask? Well I have to be honest, my first thought was "I can get my $500 chimnea!". But What I'm really going to do is to get my will and trust and estate planning and all that in order. I've been putting it off just because of the money.
So I figure that will be about half. The remaining money I'm going to add to my EF.Judy

What a thoughtful gift from your Dad - and how smart you are in using it!!

I did something like that for my girls.... The youngest one asked me for some money to help her move to TX. So i gave her some. the oldest girl won't ask for anything so I put some money in an envelope and put it in a suitcase she had not umpacked before she took me to the airport. She found it that night. i know she could use the money too. It felt good to brable to do it. I couldn't do it before now I can help a little so I do.
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

Congrats and what a very responsible way to use it. Now you have me thinking about getting our will done. We've talked about it several times but that's as far as we've went.

So, you will have to forgive me because this is completely a foreign idea to me. You mean your dad actually gave you money? Wow. Usually my Mom just asks me for money.
Congratulations!

hello all! just got back from my two week vacation and I ended up spending about $100 of the money!
I just spent the last two weeks with my son and ex husband on a fabulous vacation. I told my ex about the money and what I was going to do with it. He doesn't have a will either so I offered to foot the bill for him too. I know this sounds kind of strange but in the end, it comes down to protecting our son.
We have the same attorney so hopefully she'll cut us a deal.
And as far as my EF goes, I'll add whatever is left. I was on track for having a fully funded EF by this time next year and my plan is still in action.Judy

I don't think it strange. I think it's looking after your son. And it made you happy it sounds. That was what it was meant for. Glad you had a good vacation. That counts too!
