    Default this week's philanthropy

I'm not sure whom should receive my giving money this week and had a crazy idea. How about some of you folks here at FV name your favorite charity and I'll pick the first 20, roll a 20 sider and give to that one.

These need to be charities legal to give to in America and I don't want to give to political groups. Lastly, if it takes too long* for me to make my donation at the time I'm inclined to make it, I'm rolling again. (Translation, Paypal capable donations with a link right to the donation page have highest probability of "winning".)

    * Too long means more than 15 minutes of trying to figure out how to make the donation. Time spent reading about the group out of interest does not count toward this limit.

And no, I'm not going to give double if I roll a critical hit, sorry.

Local animal shelters as people are giving up their pets so easily, our local shelters are having difficulty feeding everyone.

~Check out our suggestions on Charity Navigator before you add them to your list. Some charities have insane administrative and fund-raising costs!

    I vote for World Vision.~

I just "binged" your suggested site. Very nice. I watched a discussion show once with several big name charity CEO's on it. Question was asked of wages... WOW...also they pretty much all admitted only 10% of the dollar actually went to the charity itself. Anyway, very nice website..

You could easily donate to local organizations like make a wish (cny.wish.org ) or mcmahonryan.org.....

I tend to favor the ASPCA, or local humane societies.

There seem to be a few people posting in the "Financial Hardship" forum here that could probably really use that $$$. How about keeping it personal and helping a fellow Frugal Village member? :-)

We give stuff as well as money. My fav right now is school supplies. A lot are .25 at Walmart.
MI. is really devastated so I vote for lighthouse charities here. They give emergency aid to people running from an abuser. Many land here from another state w/ the clothes on their back and kids in tow. A food pantry is connected w/ them too. A food pantry which is pretty empty lately because of extreme demand.

    local animal shelter

    heifer international
    11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

My son, who is on his first deployment, said that the USO would be his favorite charity from now on. He said we have no idea all of the things they do for the soldiers. So, that is my pick.
