School taxes which are included in our property tax bill, didn't go up this year. They went up last year by almost 50% (not a typo)
our property tax went up the year before by almost the same amount.
Teachers are getting 12 furlough days in our district, this year. I don't really know where the tax money is going.

Our taxes are really high, and going up again this year. However, the schools are top rated and our property values keep going up a lot more than the tax increases, or at least hold steady. This area is considered desirable because of the public school system. Sometimes it evens out...

We get our school taxes in July. They always go up here also. Our house values have pretty much stayed the same in our area. But houses aren't selling. I have one in high school and she really doesn't need to much for school. I hear from elementary and middle school parents that the school lists get bigger every year. I know our school last year stopped the sports busses after practices(late bus). So all parents have to pick up there kids if they want to be in after school sports. We do bus our 1/2 day kindergarteners thou.

~Our school taxes for this year actually didn't go up. They chose to eliminate 43 workers instead.
But our property taxes are up 5.5%. Unfortunately our "real" tax increase will be closer to 30% since NJ is too poor to pay out homestead rebates this year. ~
