    Default Obsessed with coins....

    Good evening everyone...

My obsession became known about five years ago. I started
daily, to keep count of every coin, every day.

I have three daughters, ages 25, 23, and 13. They became targets
of my daily indulgences for coins.

As a matter of routine, I no longer ask or beg for their coins. They appear on my desk at the end of my day.

I roll them immediately as the denomination is filled.

To date, I have $2525.00 (and 38.05 not rolled).

This is my extra emergency fund, in case banks ever close for the
    day!!

    Anyone else crazy about coins?

I have a popcorn tin half full of silver coins and a cheese ball container I'm working on for pennies, and a bunch of banks that I have counted full of pennies. Someday I'll count the silver....

Honestly, coins give me germ phobia. LOL. I am definitely the crazy one in the thread now...

But seriously, living in Canada, half of the day to day currency is coins. I've actually gotten good at paying for things with all coins. Thus, I never roll. If I ever get lazy and fail to use my coins my purse gets really heavy and I find myself cash poor until i open my change purse and find $40 in toonies and loonies!

I have to say props to you for your commitment to rolling coins. You're a stronger person than I!

What a fun thing to be bonkers over!!

We have containers around for each type of coin and let me tell you, that quarters container has been a lifesaver plenty of times!!

I also roll coin regularly. When I have $20 or more I take it to the bank and deposit.

Do you check the dates too, Carol? I don't but my Dad always did. He had quite a coin collection at one time.

I put all coins in our sorter and roller. I assume Greebo was done with them if he didn't put them in his pocket for work in the morning. I usually cash them in or use them though.

I love rolling coin, but I don't use cash often so I don't get much.

Lisa how can you carry your purse with all that weight??
I have this really cool bank that counts the coins as I put them in and keeps track of how much is in it. We use it when we need change and am saving it for vacation or just needing it for
a quick trip to the grocery store. I have been breaking bills on purpose to fill it.

That's funny craftypam...I try to break a bill per day, just so I
    can enjoy my coins!

Handymom, two or so years into rolling my coins, I was reading a
website about the content of silver in coins older than i believe
1960. It was an oops moment. So, now I do check the dates,
but I have told my girls when they get their coin inheritance, that they must unroll all the previously rolled ones and check
the dates! (they were not impressed....?)

I love coins, lol. My grandpa was a coin collector, and we inherited half of his collection--the other half went to my uncle.

I don't consider myself a collector, but I do appreciate that coins can add up quite quickly. Keeping up with my coins has saved my butt a few times. More than once I've supplemented my fuel and food costs with my massive amounts of change. I've been trying to save up a significant amount, but it usually gets spent before that happens. And...thanks to CoinStar, I don't take the time to roll anymore.

No, I try to get rid of them for the extra/spare change on a bill.

I had a horrible time getting rid of/using about $400 of quarters a couple years ago and haven't saved anything since.

Also, had a house broke into years ago in Boise........kids (think I know who it was)---they took booze and coins. The cop told me that banks are an absolute magnet for crooks.
