Ours is a "manufactured home" meaning a newish mobile home like in the first picture. Right now we are 100 miles each way or so commute to the base each day back and forth for my husband. We thought it would save us money since it is pd off however considering gas and wear and tear on vehicles I don't believe staying in this house even for the time being is the right option so we are for sure selling it. We did get word that he could put in for a drill sergent position after his time on this stationing is up ( about a yr-yr and a half) and he could stay here possibly another 3 yrs on top of the yr left. Considering that we have decided to go ahead and list the mobile home on 1 acre (pd off) and hope it sells! We've been working with a realtor close to base and found a really nice home from the 70s( not trailer, home!!) on 11 acres that has been completely remodeled inside and out, new everything. 2 bdrm, 2 car garage and 17 miles from the base. After he retires this is where we are wanting to live anyways so we will just be buying our "forever house" a little earlier than we expected and hoping our old home sells asap. Thanks for all the opinions!!!

Another 'non expert' here- sell, don't bother renting. In this economy especially it is too uncertain as to when you'll get your rent and if the people will trash your house or not- not worth the few hundred a month you think you might get. Sell and be done with it, and be happy you're not 'upside down' and have the option to do so! Sell and move on- not worth the hassle or risk!

Many thanks for your family's dedication to our country and sacrifices to keep America great!

Good luck with the sale! I think you're making a smart move.

Personally I would sell the house. When we PCS'd from Charleston AFB we couldn't sell ours and are renting it out. We have a Property Management company take care of it, they charge 10% of the rent. They take care of everything, run credit checks, interviews, house inspections. We are lucky to have had great tenants...but if we could sell we would, since it is not our forever house.
    Many Blessings,
    Melanie

I would sell, we have a home in Montana that we are renting. Pain in the rear! We have a property manager, but we are on our 4th one. Managers are hard to find and trust! We are trying to sell the home, it has been on the market for a year with no luck! Tenants......do not get me started!
