"wedding loans" is this for real?
How to Get a Loan to Pay for a Wedding | eHow.com
people are taking out loans for weddings. how insane is that?11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I actually did take a loan out for our wedding. We were both raised on debt, and we were encouraged to do so. "How can you have a wedding without money?" and of course, we hadn't saved, so yup - a loan. Thankfully we paid it off before the interest hit - it was a no interest for a full year loan.

So what happens when a couple take out a loan, in both names or only one of the names, then everything goes south before the wedding? Who gets stuck with it, if some non refundable things have already been paid for?

Since all these wedding shows and pre wedding shows hit the airwaves it's become "the thing" to have a many thousand $ wedding. What about the one show where the girls compete for the dream wedding BUT also added in each winner got one plastic surgery of choice and the winner of the show got every plastic surgery she wanted.
It makes the kids/young adults ( and up ) think it's " the thing to do". The wedding dresses ALONE need a loan much less the rest of it.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Well villagers....My first dd is getting married a year from May....We will see just how skilled I am at getting the best deal.... I've tried to negotiate the venue for the reception....a little luck there...but still expensive (well by my gauge..$800).... My family is stuck with either having a wedding with 50 people or 400+.... Living in a small town and having a family who knows everyone is not necessarily a good thing.... hurt feeling will happen no matter now we cut the list... I've started planning now so that I can pay cash as we go...This weekend I found the napkins at a salvage store...nice ones also...$1 a pack (of 40)...saved myself 60% over the store price down the road...and today we found old glass punch bowls at the Goodwill for $3 a piece...still in the boxes... we will use these for the salads... and no...I am not having it catered...if I have so many friends that i can't cut the list...then I have that many friends who will help prepare the food... Not saying it will be a potluck..I have a client who used to own a very popular restaurant in town who has offered to run the kitchen.... This will be an interesting year in our lives....the search for the elusive bargain wedding....

Crazy idea! My ds is getting married on July 2nd the brides mom and grandparents are footing most of the bill. I can tell you I have way more cost effective ideas, but most have fallen by the wayside. I am glad to do the things I have agreed to do, all of them are things that I could control the cost. I have a budget and and sticking to it as close as possible. I hear moans and groans how this whatever costs more or that, but the bride has her "wants" and it is her families money so I just butt out. These folks aren't rich either.
with that kind of loan, it would be the first thing on the who get the wedding loan in a divorce!Married 22 years to Mark

We had a quiet ceremony with a JP in a friends beautiful back yard on the river, served finger foods. That, plus honeymoon, cost us about $3k, which we paid for ourselves (though it was 6 years ago and -some- went on cc, which I'd never do now! One friend attending told me later she regrets she and hubby didn't do it that way- they took out a 5 year loan instead- 3 years after wedding, they were STILL paying for it monthly! One day should not = years of debt, you are married either way, the joy of the day is what's important, and the love of your family and friends, not having a $3k dress or the $5k of flowers. One bride a knew was crying at the end of her wedding day- all those months of planning, all those thousands of $s, and it was DONE. People would be smart to focus more on the importance of the union than the bash of the year!

It is strange, but I find weddings in general to be strange anyway.
