I have a bachelor's degree and have never had a job requiring any education above high school. This is not to bash higher education in general - and yes, I probably should have majored in something much less general than business administration - but considering the loans I took out and time I took in school, I would probably be better off right now without having bothered to get a degree, even though the amount of loans I took to get it is below average. (This is all the more painful considering the fact that the closest thing to a decent job I've ever had has just been eliminated for economic reasons, so I will have no job at all after tomorrow.)
My brother had the misfortune of graduating from law school 2 years ago...the job market at the time was (and still is) pretty awful for new lawyers. He has probably 6-figure loans, still doesn't have a job, and I'm hoping he gets into the Army JAG program.
It's tough right now, and I don't blame anyone for thinking twice before taking on student loan debt!
