Default Do you have an "FU" fund? Does it motivate you?

Ugh, I hate my job. Hate hate hate it. I have found that lately my Emergency Fund has become an "FU" fund, just trying to save enough that I can have several months of expenses saved so if it gets any worse, I can just quit (or say FU to the job.

I have about 5 months of expenses saved and it SO helps to get me through the day to at least feel like I have the option of quitting.

I was just wondering how many people thought along these lines, hating work or hating their debtors and using that anger to motivate you?

Love the name, but this is a 2 income and 2 expenses house. Now I myself would love to have an FU fund for the creditors, but the other half isn't as wacky as me when it comes to debt.

Mine is definitely an FU fund in the making. U.S. Bank screwed me over again with their shady practices. I'm paying them off asap (gotta do the EF first) then changing banks, thus moving my FU fund OUT of their hands. Eff Ewe, U.S. Bank.

No but we are slamming the home Equity mortgage against the wall. We were dumped w/ them when Gmac decided they would sell that part. So double time on that asap.

I will never use U.S. Bank again. They screwed me over more than once, with the biggest being coming to my place of employment to repo my car b/c to find out they had put my last 3 payments in someone else's account. I just wish they had taken that thing (it was in the shop at the time so they had to go find it). But, right before the repo guy got there he was called and told not to touch it. Someone found that FU just in time b/c I would have had me a nice new ride courtesy of US BANK

    Well not exactly.

Dh loves his job and is very well paid and treated with great respect so no...but we do have our mini EF fund of $1000 in our regular savings account hooked to our checking and bill bill paying so I can get to it easily if needed and about $5000-$6000 in another bank in savings that we add to monthly for the peace of mind security we need to have to be happy and confident that we can survive.

That amount needs to keep growing.

Not currently, but I did the same thing at a job I had about 10 years ago. Hated it, hated it, hated it. Saved up 3 months worth of expenses and then quit. Watching the money grow was a definite help getting through the work day!

I've found great peace in knowing everything wont come to an end should my job end, that I am no longer feeling forced to work there 'or else'. Just knowing that has made my job MUCH more tolerable, so much less stress, even though the chance of a big FU to my job is small at this point.
My FFEF has taken so much pressure off me. I love having an option, an escape route, a backup plan.

Usually when I got to the state you are in I ended up sending out resume's and getting another job. Your motivation still sounds good. Whatever motivates you to save for what you want your future to be sounds good.

Try to also look at the job as being something that currently gives you the money to put a roof over your head and food on the table. That you are working towards a very realistic goal so you can change jobs/careers in the near future. Only suggesting this to help you get through the days.

Hang in there. Remember you do have a game plan.

Yep. I'm not the type of person to quit one job, without having another one lined up already. I've only done that once, the last year of college, mostly just to party with limited interference.

I have had an FU fund since we started our journey to clean up our mess. I don't mind my job, but the atmosphere gets to me and I work third shift. I was well on my way to having an FU fund, but the birth of our son has sucker-punched us hard with medical bills (a little over $10k since Jan 1 of this year) on top of the added expense of healthcare, childcare, formula (despite breastfeeding), and everything else it has been hard to gain traction.

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"

I don't know... Now, labeling your fund differently is fine but, if I was in your situation, I personally would rather have another job lined up. An FU job, so to speak.
