    Default Auto repair fund

How much do you put into your auto repair fund on a monthly basis?

Do you just use an envelope or do you have a separate account?

Is it just for repairs or does it include regular maintenance such as oil changes and tire rotations?

We can cash flow the minor things, we don't yet have a specific 'auto repair' savings account. We plan ahead and save for things like snow tires ($1100-1200 this month, got hubby's done this weekend, mine coming at endmonth) or shocks/struts. If we had a big unexpected repair, say, $800+, we would cash flow what we could, including cutting down our amount of saving for the month. If it went over that I guess it would come out of our EF or 'next car' savings.

How much you shoud be saving each week/month depends on large part how old your car is, how expensive your repairs might be (is it a Ford or a BMW?) and how close you are to buying your next car, hopefully with cash only.
