$142.85 for both federal and state. Our federal taxes include business/self employment income which makes it more costly. If it weren't for my business/self employment income we'd be able to free file...LOL. But, the difference in our income would be substantial...so I don't mind paying.

I do them myself online through TurboTax.

We pay $150. The accountant comes to the house, e-files all the paperwork and sends us a CD for our records. We have used the same company for 20 years.

It's worth it for our piece of mind.

I was thinking about trying it myself, but DH and I aren't sure we can get all the forms right. We have the self employment, business income/loss, rental income loss, and heaven only knows how to figure out the depreciation on the new equipment etc. and then theres our personal we have to do too. By the time shes done we have a stack of about 30 sheets of forms to send in.

Anyone else paying around that much? Now I feel like I am really getting ripped off. Shes done our taxes for about 30 years.

Same here...only not a partnership...it's a DBA. No way would we touch it ourselves even if we THOUGHT we could. That's not counting the book keeping thru out the year. $1000 is about right...sometimes a little less ..sometimes a little more.

$600 for federal and state. Works for us - with businesses, etc.

We pay $200 to $250, depending on the year.

We prefer to pay someone because she has saved our butt more than once. On of the times, we received a letter saying that we screwed up on our taxes and we owed the IRS a small fortune. She had done our taxes that year so we took the letter to her and she fixed it. It was something to do with inherited money and so there really wasn't supposed to be a tax on it.
