Default How much does having your taxes done cost you?

Just curious. A lot of other sites I hang around on, people are talking about paying $150-$300 just to have someone do their taxes. That seems outrageous to me. So how much does it cost you?

We pay about $20-$50 every year to buy software and do it ourselves. Price varies depending on coupons/rebates/gift cards/etc. This year I paid $30. We itemize, but nothing too fancy (no self-employment/business income/rental property).

Nothing I do them myself, have been doing that for many years. I catch errors of people that have them done and pay a fortune for fun...lol

I paid $19.95 through H&R Block, did it online on 1/24 and just got word from the IRS site that my deposit is due on 2/8.

I do the itemized return with property taxes and mortgage insurance, I had a self pay surgery last year to claim, I have a 21 year old dependent that I currently support, etc.... and all went well.

I would have to have a reallllly complicated situation to think that paying $150 - $300 would be necessary. Though I do know those kinds of circumstances do exist for many.

We pay to have them done. Usually it is around with 200$. Due to the type of deductions that hubby can take, I prefer to have someone go over all of them.

$275 last year to our CPA- but hubby works full-time AND has a small business that does well, on top of our 'regular' tax filing they meet every quarter to get a figure for est. quarterly taxes for the business, as we have to pay the IRS every quarter on the business. So sunds expenisive, but that's for a 'regular' household and a small business.

Worth every penny- I have no desire to mess up with the IRS intentionaly or unintentionally. We're happy to spend that $ to be guided by a pro.

$3. Not joking. I go to Starbucks and buy a Venti Americano for my dad, bring my paperwork, and he does the return for me while I help him

Wow, I would love to pay $300 for our taxes!

Last year we paid almost $1000!
We have even asked her if there was something we could do to get it lower and she said no. We called a few cpa's last year and they were about the same amount.

I was thinking about trying it myself, but DH and I aren't sure we can get all the forms right. We have the self employment, business income/loss, rental income loss, and heaven only knows how to figure out the depreciation on the new equipment etc. and then theres our personal we have to do too. By the time shes done we have a stack of about 30 sheets of forms to send in.

Anyone else paying around that much? Now I feel like I am really getting ripped off. Shes done our taxes for about 30 years.

DIl asked one of her friends if she could do them and she said no, that she wont touch partnership business, theres too much work!

For the last five years I have paid between $450 and $550 to have ours done because we had a business that we did as a DBA and not INC so our personal was mixed with our business. I will still have to pay it for this year (2011) and now that the business is closed I will be able to have them done cheaply again after that.

~It'll probably be $35 this year with TurboTax. I don't know how, but we get more money through them then when I do the standard forms. Well worth the fee.~
