    Default Central Air

Dh and I both grew up without central air and it always seemed like a huge luxury. In our first house, we had one air conditioning unit at the top of the stairs and it really did nothing for the house. In this home, last summer we bought two units and put them in our bedroom and dd's bedroom. Our rooms were comfortable, but the rest of the house was unbearable. However, all the estimates that we got were about $10,000-$15,000 to put in central air, because we don't have pre-existing ductwork. So, that was a dream we figured was out the window. HOWEVER, dh's sister and her husband called two weeks ago and said that they had a guy who was giving them a great rate on putting central air in their home, and theirs is twice the size of ours. Because it is winter, he's not getting a lot of work, so his rates are pretty low. He came by last week and gave us an estimate of $5,500. We've been putting money aside in a special account for home repairs and we have $5,600 in that account! So, he's coming in the next two weeks to do the work! I can't believe it! I feel like a queen, getting central air!

That is awesome! I wish we had that, I never had any kind of air conditioner until the last house we rented and now it is hard without it, I wish we could afford to do it here but we would only use it for 2 months so I guess it isn't really worth it...
We are getting a pool and that should help with us keeping cool this winter :~)

Enjoy that air in the heat of summer. I couldn't live without mine! It is funny how we didn't have it when we were children and it never bothered us then, but now can't live without it.

Congratulations on the central air. I can't imagine living without it, of course I live in a land of almost 6 months worth of hot weather. there are days in the spring where we literally use the heat and the AC on the same days.
