Who handles the money and bills?
In your home who does the finances? Are both people aware of when things are due etc?
Here, I do the majority of the bill paying. Until recently, hubby really wasn't sure what was going out and when. Now that we have a sametime online bank account, he checks it daily and knows when things are due etc.
I have found that now that we are both on the same page so to speak, we are doing better. Before it was difficult keeping track of when he pulled from atm etc. Sometimes he would forget to mention it.
Just curious how it works at your house.

I do all of our bill paying etc.Dh has no clue in what we pay or what we owe.
I always say I'll sit down and go over things,in case something were to happen to me,but I can never find the time.
If something happened to me and he started paying bills,he might be shocked as to what and who we owe LOL

I do the bills and handle the finances. That is really the only practical thing for us. DH is frequently gone, so I would have to do them then anyway. This way there is always one person doing everything, not switching back and forth. He knows all of our bills and when stuff is due etc. though.

I make the budget and physically write out the checks. Dh agrees to the budget and sometimes addresses envelopes while I write out checks. lol We are on the same page and talk about finances at least once a month, usually more. We each get a small allowance to do what we want with. Anything above that we consult the other partner before we withdraw the money. It works well for us and there is never any arguements because of lack of funds and such.

Because my Dh works long hours and alot he is rarely home to decide about bills & such. He is aware of the bills we have but is clueless when they get paid or how they are. We discuss major purchases but they are usually left up to me to decide. Cause he figures Im home all day in the house & with the kids, so I would know who needs socks etc or if we need sometime for the house. We use the cash evnelope system and not our bank, so we never have a problem with taking money out. It works well for us. We do sit and talk about goals we want to reach. But in the end Im the one in charge of making sure the money is there to meet that goal.

I handle all finacial matters here. Dh has no clue and doesn't want one. I try to sit him down and discuss things but he always tells me I am doing a good job and to do what I feel is best.
He is rarely home, so this really does work out for us. He works 60-70 hours/week in a factory plus farms. No free time to speak of.
If something major comes up, I tell him.

I was reading all the replies and it reminded me of what one of Aunts husband use to say. He would tell people she handles the money and he doesnt get involved. And my Aunt would say "He gets involved when he realizes there is NO money" LOL I think most Dh are happy with this arrangement cause they see their wives doing a good job. Wonder if my Dh would still let me do it if I was horrible at it? LOL Just some of my ponderings....

Dh actually does our household bills. He's much more together on that then I have the time to be. I do most of the shopping, even for his clothes etc, I tell him what I've spent and we split just about everything, we have joint accounts and personal accounts-due to his alimony and child support and bad experience with the ex he holds on to finances with both hands, which is fine with me.

We do the bills together. I "pay" them in the checkbook and DH sends them via computer. We are happiest with this since this way, nobody is left in the dark with regard to how much money there is (or isn't!).

I figure out the budget and what gets paid when. It seems like I have always done that since we got married. But I always read off what is getting paid on payday. He doesn't know when things are due but has an idea what we pay for some of the bills.

All of our bills go out of DH's bank account automatically on payday and they're all fixed amounts. It's easier now than when I worked as we each had responsibility for a share of the bills so we never knew how much money we had.
Our shopping budget goes into my bank account so these expenses I am responsible for and are really the only bills we see "in the flesh", so it works out pretty well. We see it as though my account is the "active" one and Scott's doesn't get touched throughout the month.
Oh I have the tv licence but that's just so I can have a utility bill in my name if I ever need I.D!

I look after all the finances in our house. When we were first married we did it together but once the kids were born and I was at home it just made more sense for me to take over. However, we make decisions on major expenses together and the account is joint.

Dh makes the money and that goes into one pot (aka the checking account)
I do the shopping & pay the bills. I leave the bills out on the table the day they come in and he checks them out.(he's always interested in elec usage & such) If things are getting tight $$ wise and I'm concerned I'll talk to him. Big purchases are mutually agreed upon.~*Darlene*~
