I know it's overwhelming, but facing the total numbers is the first step to change.

You can do it! My hospital bill for one admission (uncovered by insurance) was $124,000- then we added tons of cc debt, house payments and car payments to the mix. At one time we were nearly $200,000 in debt. Today we are at just at $40,000- $90,000 if you add my son's house that we co-signed.
One day at a time, one step at a time, one payment at a time and you will get there.

Jayne,
You took the first step! The next step is to vow to create no new debt unless it is an absolute emergency.
We are also paying off a chunk ourselves. I found alot of help using Dave Ramseys principals https://www.mytotalmoneymakeover.com...d=9&zb=7255050
There are a few of us doing a debt reduction challenge. We picked the debts we want to concentrate on now and posted them. Please feel free to join us because you certainly are not alone!
Also, I've found a budget with sinking funds really helps with those unexpected expenses.
Please holler if I can in anyway help.
Best of luck! You can do it
