Default good news with our budget

I hadn't redone our budget in the past few months so decided to take a close look again, but with Gabe being here with me and doing exact amounts vs. rounding off or roughly estimating.

I was so thrilled to realize that I made an error in my previous budget.

We have direct deposit and two loans through our credit union. These two loans are automatically deducted from our account. I had been inputting Gabe's salary into the budget based on the deposit amount on our online bank statement and then deducting these two loans as part of our expenses. Wellll, his deposited amount was already reflecting these two loans being deducted. Well, duh on me! Let's just say I feel TONS better and a bit dumb too, but still tons better.

I guess my point is Gabe and I usually go over the budget together once a year, but last time I did the budget it was me on my own and I truly realize the importance of both people sitting down together and doing it.

Nothing has really changd except my perception on our finances. I'm making some phone calls though today on a couple of things like checking other auto insurance companies for rates, lowering our cable internet package, and looking into broadband phone.

I love when you find those types of mistakes. WTG on both sitting down and working on it together.

I am glad you 2 were able to sit down together and work on your budget. Better yet, I am glad you were able to find the mistake which was in your favor. I bet you felt a big sigh of relief.

Its always great to find the error in your favor...

We don't really budget here although we should... I try to do it but then it always gets messed up or we don't follow it...

All the bills get paid and we have a little extra....my dh has a separate account that money gets direct deposit into so there is that cushion there if our bank account gets low and we need money for something.

Great idea on looking for ways to cut back!

What a nice surprise for you! At the moment, with DH being self-employed, and all the expenses we have, it has been really hard to budget the way that I would like.
Soon, things will be a little easier, in that while he will probably make less, what he does make will be regular, and on a certain date. I agree that sitting down together is a really sensible, smart thing to do.
