When it seems too good to be true,
it's time to read the fine print. The other day I got a letter in the mail from my new mortgage company with a wonderful offer to save me thousands of dollars in interest over the life of the mortgage by making my payments every other week instead of monthly. Wonderful, I called the 1-800 number and talked to them about setting it so that it would be automatically deducted from our checking account the day after each payday. Fine so far, until he mentions the $295 origination fee and the $5 monthly maintenance fee!!
Why on earth would I give them $295 plus $60 a year to do what I would do anyway--that is pay the mortgage off early anyway?? It took me about 5 seconds to say No Way and Good-bye.

It doesn't hurt to ask, but ALWAYS read the fine print! You were too smart for them! They are counting on people not asking for all the details.
It just seems to me that lg. corps tend to think "average" people are stupid.
