Affairs in order?

Not to be morbid here ladies, but if something was to happen to you, are your affairs in order?

Have you got insurance for your finances and furneral expenses?

Would whoever was going through your papers be able to find what they needed and know what needed to be taken care of? I take care of the bills and checkbook but it is not organized.

I was thinking today that my dh would be scratching his head if something was to happen to me.... my sister would probably be able to help him out some but my papers and record keeping is a mess.

I have some insurance that would help out....we have important papers like that in our safe deposit box but everything else he would be going "what??"

On another board, there are often threads about what they call an "Alien Abduction Notebook". That's basically a 3-ring binder containing everything your family would need to know if aliens suddenly abducted you.

It includes things like insurance policies and account numbers, but also things that you're responsible for-- like lists of where certain items (grandma's china) are stored, who to call if you're going to miss work, etc-- practical stuff that might be needed in case of sudden illness, not just death.

I love the name, and it's a practical idea.... it's been on my to-do list forever.

And to answer your question, no, I don't have things together yet.

Yes. Only because I was very worried something would happen to me when I had surgery almost a month ago. I bought a filing cabinet and got everything together. Lol, I showed it all to DH and reminded him we have 2 insurance policies. Of course he forgot about the one through the bank and just remembered the one from his work. Heck he was lost without me for the 9 days I was in the hospital, I would hate for something to happen to me!

Well we have a will, but it needs updating.
We have our insurance policies all in order but I'm presently cleaning out the filing cabinet so that they could be located in case of emergency. I'm gonna make an "emergency" file too. Good thread Cornelia.

A few things are in the safety deposit box but the rest is a mess. I need to make an official place and put this stuff.

Our papers are in pretty good shape. I have a file drawer right by my computer desk with files for our wills & medical power of attorney, various insurance policies--homeowners, flood, auto, & life, income tax for the previous 10 years, and a set of folders one for each month for receipts & bills that have been paid. In the file with the wills and medical power of attorney, I have a list of where all our bank accounts, 401K, & IRAs are located. But would DH be able to find what he might need?? Not a chance unless I am there to put it in his hand. He can't find the glasses on his nose!! LOL!!
