just when I thought things couldnt get worse...
I've had it, I just got a phone call from DH to tell me that we owe his work 2000Euro! Apparently when he took over his new job in July payroll made a few mistakes and we never noticed,at the same time he got a company car so we were not sure what his pay was going to be anyway with alterations of Tax due to that, they also have messed up on his pension payments and we are due a rebate but it will be only a tiny amount.
I'm fuming with payroll - how come its taken them this long to find out, and 2000 Euro - how on earth are we going to pay that back - we are only just managing now without an extra payment.
It has been going quite well this month, earning little bits here and there towards the debt and I was beginning to see a light far away in the distance but this has just thrown me again.
I just feel sick.

Rachael, I'm sorry to hear about this! I have no idea how much 2000Euro is, but it sure sounds like a lot, and even a little is a lot when you are blindsided by it! I know it's not much, but can you use your EF (77.27 Euro) and your change jar to help pay for it? Like I said, it's a small dent in it, but it's something!

Thanks Amy, 2000 Euro is approx $2400
DH is going to see if we can pay it back in installments over a few months, hopefully they will agree as its their mistake but you know what big companies are like - they really dont give a toss for the minions ( he works for Hewlett Packard).
we are going to sit down tonight and have a talk, Its my Birthday next week and i've told him I dont want anything for either that or christmas - i'd rather put the money towards debt but he isnt happy with that idea.
I have a few hours work this weekend at an interiors show so that will be a slight amount towards it, also I am hoping to sell a few cards, my SIl is going to put them out on her stand
I am sure somrthing will turn up though - it was just a bit of a shock to hear that this morning!

What a bummer!
I hope you can get something sorted out.
Many years ago, I argued with the Payroll office over a similar problem and I VERY strongly suggested that THEY had caused ME the problem because THEY didn't do THEIR job correctly and so I wanted to pay back the money owed at £ 20.00 per month ( or whatever) if they couldn't redeem THEIR mistake, by doing this, I said I would feel OBLIGED to inform the Head of Payroll AND the Director of Human resources and tell him that THEIR mistake would cause ME financial hardship!
The trick is to say it all of the above, nice and polite with a smile on your face, but be ready for a fight.
It worked for me
they did NOT like it, but then as I said to them, THEIR mistake didn't thrill me either
good luck!
Karen

I'm sorry Rachel. Good luck with getting a repayment plan for a little at a time. This just stinks.

I ditto what Karen said. It is THEIR mistake. There is no way you should be expected to pay that back as a lump sum. I am sure an interest FREE installment plan can and should be worked out.
But that sure is a nasty shock! Bah Humbug to them too!

Hi and ((((((((hugs))))))). Hoping also that it can be paid back over time - it seems only fair.
Re your birthday and Christmas. hhmmm...your birthday - could you ask your DH to cook you a meal, complete with set table? That way he is giving you a very worthwhile present indeed! Another thing is making a CD with your favourite songs and maybe he could make a cover for it too? I live in England (although Scottish
) and made a trip to Canada to visit my sister a few years ago. I was a bit worried about getting to heathrow, fnding the right terminal etc as I was on my own. Well, I did it, but my boyfriend, now DH, gave me a tape to play on the plane - not to look etc til I could play it. Well, he had cut out a 'Wendy' from Southpark (!) and had labelled the tape 'Wendy Goes To Canada'. Anyone as old as me will remember Frankie Goes to Hollywood (or maybe not? Just thinking, they were a British band). Well, I still have that treasured tape - there is not a song list on it, so i never knew what was coming next but each was specially chosen. The last song was Green Day 'The Time of Your Life' - hhmmm, then my too wise son said 'mum, that one is actually called 'Good Riddance' '. (the lyrics are great though!)
What I'm trying to say here is that home-made gifts are given with thought and care and, for me, the memories last forever.
Wishing you well.

AWWWWW Geez! What a horrible thing to happen especially at this time of the year! I also agree with Karen and point out to them they didn't give it to you all in a lump sum, and it is a severe hardship to you!
