Dental bills
Richard and Chris had dental appointments this morning for routine teeth cleanings. They took xrays. They told me that our insurance probably wasn't going to pay for them because they are only allowed to take them every 36 months and that they took them 3 days before the alloted time. UGH! Well of course I am not happy about that. I am praying that the insurance goes ahead and pays them being that it is so close to the time period.
Anyway, after that delima they inform me that Chris needs to see an oral surgeon because of his bottom wisdom teeth. They are beginning to come in, but are causing cysts. So they think they may cause bone loss in his jaw. Then they said he needs to see the orthodonitist. I already had that feeling, but was hoping we could hold off. I need to call and schedule both of these visits. I was suppose to make him an appointment for 2 small fillings, but am holding off for 3 weeks due to school. That will only cost $84.
For the good news, Richard came back with perfect teeth. YAY! I am glad about that.
I just didn't want any other debt for the new year, but looks like I will be paying an orthodontist for braces.

Michelle if the insurance denies the x-rays. Appeal and just tell them that you could only schedule them for this time.
On the wisdom teeth make sure that the Dr. files under the medical insurance as well. Medical will pay for these about 70% of time time.
On the ortho bill see if you have dental school nearby. This could cut your bill by half.

Thank you for the advice Kellie. I think that is exactly what I will do if they deny the claim.
I don't have a dental school near me or I would surely go visit them.~*Michelle*~

Ah, rats!! Our state has a state insurance board you can make complaints with or ask for advice/mediation on issues like this. Perhaps a possibility?

Sorry Michelle. I just went thru both kids getting wisdom teeth out about 8 months apart I think. I feel your pain.

Michelle since you don't have a dental school do call around and check out some prices. Braces can differ by $3000 between orthodontists. Also, see if you need the whole metal deal. Also make sure that you get it preauthorized. This way you will know what it will cost you up front. FYI, see if you can pay for it up front as sometimes they will cut you a price break if you do it.
I mention this as I work for a insurance company and you wouldn't believe the price difference.Kellie

Thanks for the great advice. I am going to make sure I know exactly what our insurance pays for ahead of time before I jump in with both feet. I want to get everything on paper with the ortho too. I don't want any "surprise" fees!

I hope your insurance will pay for some of Chris's dental work Michelle. It's terrible that these things cost so much! We all NEED our teeth!

Thanks Michele. I am hoping that most of it is covered. I still haven't made him an appointment for a consult yet. I guess I will do it Tuesday when they reopen.

Insurances give a leeway of a week or 2 especially if your requirement is 36 months. Just like immunizations. Can't be totally exact all the time.
