    Default Opt out credit offers

Stop all those credit card offers in the mail..

The number that appears on the Opt-Out Web site (www.optoutprescreen.com) -- (888) 567-8688 -- is correct, and replaced the number you read in this column many months ago. You can also opt out at the Web site if you would rather not call. Both actions will do the same thing: Get your name off the lists for either two years or permanently, depending on which option you select. Be prepared to give your name, address and Social Security number. It's OK -- these credit reporting agencies already have that information, and giving it again simply identifies you.

Thanks for posting this, Cornelia. This is something I plan on doing once we get settled in the new house.
