    Smile Financial Peace University?

I am big Dave Ramsey Fan. We are currently working on baby step #3. There is a FPU starting this coming week at a local church. I would love to take this class! The cost is $95 and that includes all of the kit and everything. Would you take it? If you have taken it, what is it like? Is it mostly geared towards paying off debt? Or is it more of everything? WWYD? TIA!

I may be in the minority - but I sure would NOT spend $95 to learn how to save money. Especially when you can rent his books from the library, visit his Web site, and listen to his radio show.

I haven't taken it, but I would. He has a good sale on materials right now (I think it is half price just about every other month.)

Anyway, the only reason I don't take it is because 1)the nearest class is 50 miles away and 2)it is on a night that I work.

I know someone who got a scholarship from her church to take it and she loved it.

I am not sure I would. I'd be wanting some definite details that it contained something I couldn't otherwise get in the resourses that alabamagirl mentioned.

Sometimes a seminar is a wonderful boost though, so if it gets you moving or convinces a reluctant dh (some are notoriously bad about liking to budget and pay off debt, not seeing the point of all that pain) then it would be worth it.

But if it just said a bunch of things he already has in a book, I'd buy a book and spend the rest of the cash on setting up a savings account or paying down debt. (I suspect what you call 401K is our Canadian RRSP which is a registered retirement savings plan and a WONDERFUL tax savings as well as retirement fund-- similar things RESP's to save for kid's college).

Well, it could just be sales propaganda, but Dave says the biggest thing you will get from attending the actual class is the support of others going throuh what you are.

Of course, we have that here, don't we?

I'd take it. Philip and I took the one day 5 hour seminar (hosted by Dave) just before we got married. It was definitely worth the money.
