Question Has the housing market prices cooled in your area?

A couple days ago I heard the housing market was cooling down in the States. It hasn't affected the prices here yet, however they were saying it will.

Has the housing market prices cooled in your area at all?

I think so. I believe prices dropped back about 10-15%, but that is just a guesss based on what our realtor friend told us early last year and then our recent appraisal.

Yes, sales have cooled quite a lot where we are in Northern California. Houses are not selling as quickly as before. Our home has been on the market for 5 months. Two years ago, this home would have flown off the market in a few weeks. What I think is happening, though, is that prices are stabilizing to a more normal price now. It's definitely a different market. My realtor said that 2 years ago most realtors could fall out of bed here and make a good living. Not so now.

No, our housing market is just now picking up. The reason for our housing boom is slightly different than the rest of the country. The local military base just got 2 more brigades which equates to nearly 20,000 military members & their families coming here

In fact, our housing assessments went up by 35%! Of course, that means our taxes will probably go up as well

But houses still sell in a matter of hours/days at most. It's extremely hard to find a house to rent, most people are buying because the can't find a rental. Sadly, there still isn't nearly enough new housing being built. The military base is bussing soldiers from a city 70 miles away to & from work, every day!

Hotter than ever. We got our tax assessment!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    based on the RISE

and I'm not exactly taking it well. I'm really glad that the economy has picked up, but I was startled by the jump from this time last year.

Ours is hot also. They are building HUGE houses on little tiny lots just down the road from me and they start at 1/2 a million! They are selling quickly. We have lived in our home for 20 yrs this spring, we have 1 acre, we have never refinanced or taken any loans on our house so we are sitting a a nice chunk of equity. I complain all the time about the development around us but I guess it has its good side.

The prices have not cooled down, but it seems to dh and I that maybe actual sales have on existing homes.

Nope, not a bit. Every scrap of land is being divided up and having new houses built upon it. Even old house are going up, up, up. Some old houses are bought and torn down & two new are put up. It's crazy.
