Feeling Good About the Car Loans
Well, I did both car loan payments on Friday, and I am feeling good. I paid $123.88 extra on my van and paid $75 extra on Rob's truck. My van should be paid off by the end of the summer, with the extra we've been paying, and when I roll those payments onto Rob's truck payments, we figure we'll have his truck paid off in 2.5 years instead of 5. Watching our checking balance go down so much, so fast, was a bit disconcerting, but I really think we can do it. We're kicking into some high frugality over here, and I just did a huge shopping trip, which I'll post in another forum, so I think we'll be okay. Then, I'll go back to work in June for a month, make a little money, then summer hits, and I'll work part-time, make a littler amount, but it's still something, and then when September comes, we'll be ready to really snowball these things away.
These first payments were just the first step and they feel SO good! I can't wait to watch that debt

That is a good plan. I want to start paying extra on dh's truck. Its on auto-pay and I'm going to have to contact the company GMAC and find out how to change it. I also need to do what you did. Sit down and see when the end is in sight!

It sounds like you're on the right track and you have a good plan. Car loans are so outrageous these days.

Great plan and so glad you can get them paid off so quickly!
Hubby and I went looking at trucks over the weekend (ok, so we went to get the free $40.00 gas cert, lol) but I about CHOKED at the prices on vehicles these days, man the monthly payments are what I used to pay in rent on an apartment, YIKES!
Just for kicks I went and looked at the price on a new special edition F150 (the southern comfort edition) YEE GADS!! $48,000 for a truck? And thats only a 150! I drive an 11 year old F350 Crew Cab dually, I don't even want to know what a new one of those would go for, I'd have to sell the farm to buy it!

My uncle works for GM and came to easter driving a new suv. It came up that his car cost $86,000.
anyway, he was getting on my for always buying honda's, saying things like "you are the reason we are all losing our jobs blah blah blah" so I finally said "your new car costs more than my house, adn you are telling me to worry about your job? I want a car that runs good, get's good gas milage, and is not to expensive - when Gm can make that, I'll get one!!!!"
lol - that shut him up.

I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! I WILL SOON BE WHERE YOU ARE

NOT TRYING TO GET OFF THE SUBJECT HERE,
MandiDawn, I agreed with you on the CARS thing. My first car is a Honda (It's the best car I had, it had almost 300,000 miles on it, still runs great) I got rid of it, because it was rusting through one side of the body, and the fender was falling off (would cost me thousands for a new body). The whole time I own the car, didn't have to do anything major to fix it, just oil-change, give it gasoline, and it runs perfect. I Love that car, would still have it if it wasn't for the RUST.
My car now is a 1997 Acura, it's a good car too. So far, (3 years now) not a problem yet. It has around 160,000 miles, runs great. All it needs is oil-change, and gas. Hopefully, this car last as long or longer than the first one. This one doesn't have any rust yet, and I'm trying to keep it rust free.
I know people that drives other brand, and have problems all the time. I think I will stick with Honda and Acura, since I have pretty good luck with them so far, and they are not too expensive.
