Got a letter from the IRS yesterday...
and I was shaking in my boots as I carried it up the stairs - all I could think of was "audit" and "you didn't pay us enough, you owe MORE, and now there's FEES" and how DH was going to be really mad - he always lets me do the taxes.
So I opened the letter and...
We forgot to sign our return!
That was it!
You don't know how relieved I was when I found this out. And all we had to do was sign and date a form they enclosed and mail it back to them.
They sure had me going! I even checked the bank statements to make sure that our check was cashed (we owed this year).Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

I'm so happy for you that you didn't have to pay any more. When I changed jobs a few years ago, I didn't know I had to pay city tax and I got a letter. I was SCARED TO DEATH! Dh was out of town in school, so I called him and he told me everything would be fine. I hadn't made much money and the bill wasn't very high. I know just how you feel though!

LOL! We got our return sent back to us this year. I forgot to attach my W-2. Whew!
But, yes, I totally understand your feelings of trepidation.

At least you can say the letter you got back from the IRS was a good one.

Whew! I would have been nervous too! Glad it was just a little oversight on your part and nothing major!

Thank goodness you weren't charged interest...that happened to us one year, and they charged us interest from April 15th-August something. Not fun, but I guess it could have been worse.

Whew! Glad it wasn't an audit! We forgot to sign ours one year too.
