Setting up a New Account

Tomorrow, dh and I are going to the bank to set up a new account. We have our checking and savings, and the kids accounts at a credit union, and are keeping those there. However, we are going to open a miscellaneous account at another bank. Why? Well, first of all, we need a safe deposit box, and the credit union doesn't have them. Secondly, we want an account that is out of the way, a little difficult to get to where we can just sock away money. Sort of like an emergency fund, but not really. More for home repair, big ticket item money. I'll be pulling a little out of my paycheck every month to be deposited there, as will dh. We won't miss it and it will add up.

that's a great idea - can you direct deposit a set amount out of each paycheck so you don't have to drive to this bank?

Sounds like a great idea. It helps that it isn't so easily accessible.
