Okay, so my dh has to have a credit card in order to build his credit score....he has no score---just a dash. I got him a credit card through the bank I work for, secured by my paycheck. He only has a 500$ limit and he only puts one-two things on it per month, and it's never over 60$.
I get a letter today saying his payment was late I hadn't paid his payment.
I'm steamed----go through three drawers of receipts and statements and registers that people make fun of me for keeping and I find the receipt. In the old register, I find the check number I used to pay it with. I match that infor up on our online banking and I have proof we paid it.
Now, I just have to fax all that to the c.c. people get them to take the $ and the late charge off our bill, and then go to our bankcard services dept. to find out why they didn't credit the $.
So moral to this story:
KEEP DOCUMENTATIONS ON THESE EVIL BEASTLY THINGS!

I hate cc companies. They make mistakes (I've often thought probably on purpose to get more money and raise your interest rate) and then leave us to correct the problem which takes a lot of time and effort. I'm glad I don't have ccs any more.

I agree - keep all those receipts - I am dealing with a company at the moment and the last 3 months they keep sending me nasty letters saying i havnt paid - I keep having to send the proof off to them, its so frustrating!!

Make sure they don't put that on his credit report has a late payment. They've been known to do that too especially when you are trying to build his credit score.
I dont think its the receipts its the chq she used to pay the CC bill! But good thing there's back up. Proof of payment.
Im anal janal and I can check my CC balance online....so when I do charge something...a few days later I will transfer money over directly. So when I get the statement .... it shows the charge and then a negative charge (payment) so for me Im happy lol - petty and maybe a bit more work but it shows clearly its been paid off.
Good job on busting their balls though with the proof of payment! *thumbs up*

I faxed the copy of the receipt, front and back of the check, and along with the portion of my statement showing the check being deducted from my account. The late fee has been removed. I checked to make sure they wouldn't report to credit bureau and b/c we noticed the problem when it was only 10 days past due, they didn't report it.
We figured out where the mix-up was. When the payment was ran at my bank, the girl who ran it, ran it in my name, not dh's. So it was credited to my card and not dh's.

Payment errors happen all the time. I agree the c.c. companies leave it to the consumer to find it and then correct it. It happened to me and dh. twice. The first time, the c.c. transposed a number when recording the payment, and credited to another account. Here I was thinking I had paid my bill off in full, my surprize was when they called me and said they havent recieved my payment yet. I had to get a copy of the cancelled check, and fax it over to them, then they wanted another copy that I had to express mail them. They did remove the late charges right away, but then tried charge me the interest, and increase the interest rate because it was late. It took a letter from an attorney friend explaining the error was theirs not mine, to get them to take off the interest and decrease the rate. That payment would have been credited at least two weeks early.
The second time something like that happend to us it was with our electric bill, same situation, credited payement to another account. Also had to send copies of the cancelled check. The electric company at least apologized to their error, the c.c. never did.
