the importance of an ef
well dh dn i are really struggling, we were not smart and had no ef when he got sick. now we have no idea how we are going to make it thru this time in our lives. we recently moved and bought a newer car. we will probably loose our house, food is tough, meds are out of this world. i could go on and on, but the reason i posted this is because i wanted every one to realize how important an ef is. hubby has never been sick, not in the 30 years we have been together, now becasue of poor planning we stand to loose everything.one week changed our whole lives, there is no christmas for us, we are eatting what ever left overs i have from work. but on the other hand we learned a tough lesson adn i can promise you as soon as possible we will start saving, hopefully we will never have to use it, but if we do at least we will have it

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I lived in Nebraska for 9 years. I remember that the Omaha World Herald has a Christmas fund. The paper should have an address where you can cotact them. I remember they help out w/ something- food vouchers, pay a utility bill, etc plus they always gave a Christmas dinner. If I can remember anymore help organizations, I'll let you know. God Bless.

I'm also sorry to hear about your situation. I do appreciate your sharing it because I struggle so much with the knowledge of know EF is a higher priority than rapid payments on debt. Although this morning I've been going over the numbers for dh las paycheck this year and have firmly decided that I will put some $ into savings and continue to do so until I reach a minimun. It's so hard- but you are right it is vital!
Please check with your loacal area churches, many of them give out food baskets for Christmas. Also check with the Salvation Army. Sign up for a Holiday basket and put your kids on the list. Don't hesitate to let those around you know that times are tough, they may know of a resource to help out.

Thank-you for posting. We have an EF, but it's not complete yet. I want our morgage paid off SOOOOOO bad that I've been throwing everything there instead of finishing up the EF. You're post is a great kick in the butt for me.
More importantly....
and prayers being sent you're way. I would definately check into the churches in you're area ..... and social services. Several years ago when my DH got sick we we're able to apply for temporary aide while he wasn't recieving a paycheck. It wasn't much but it kept us fed. (When hubby was working as well as me we made to much money but once he got sick we qualified even though we had a house payment because it was only temporarily while he was out due to medical reasons) They looked at us kind of starange at first when I went to apply and the first worker we had said we wouldn't qualify but her supervisior (an older lady) took over and said that our situation was actually what the system was set up for years ago, "working families that hit a rough patch". She used us as a teaching example for the people under her supervision as well!!! As I said it wasn't a lot but it helped with meds and food and we were very, very grateful.
