What kind of retirement accounts do you have?
What kind of retirement accounts do you have or have available to you? We currently have:
a ROTH IRA (was mine before we got married)
a 401K from an old job of mine
a second 401K from an old job of mine
...and DH had his 401K through his current employer.
Neither of us have pension plans available to us. The last company I worked at actually had a pension plan, although I was laid off so I probably won't see anything from it (though I do have an email in with them to check on it).Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

We each have a pension plan that is called Calpers.
We each also are doing the ARSC to retire 5 years early through Calpers. It will cost us 386.00 per month for 15 years, taken from our paycheck.
The longer we wait the costlier it is, so we jumped in early on the ARSC.
We also each have ICMA retirement 457K plans.
And I have some mutual funds through State Farm, my Dad was an agent so they are no load, no fee funds.
I put some money into alll these but...
I am so green about all this stuff.
I am less green at buying a property and going from there.

Dh has a 401k with his company that he's been w/for 9 years. I have a 403b w/AIG Valic. I also have a pension as a state employee, but they are trying to take that away from teachers right now, even though the money has been taken from our paychecks.

~DH has a 401K at his job. He's worked there 10 years. I worked minimum wage jobs before getting married, so no accounts for me. We currently contribute 7% and the company matches 50% of that. Our income is still in the 'low' bracket so this is a squeeze for us. I'm planning to double our retirement savings when DH hits 40. That's about 6 years away. By then we should be a 'middle income' family.~

I am a county employee and we have a pension plan, roughly 9% goes into it per month. I have a ROTH with a very small balance in it right now but I'm going to start contributing to it again in January.
DH is at a new job and won't be eligible for his 401k and ESOP until August.“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

DH and I both have 401K's. We put in 4% and our companies match 2%. That's the maximum amount that they will match. After we complete our debt snowball in the spring, we're both going to open up Roth's.

I work for the state and have a 403b (I think) with TIAA-Cref. But we don't pay social security -- this takes the place of it, and there is no match. I try to add additional to it, though I have not since I began ill in August. I hope to start that again in a few months. Right now, I'm more concerned about building up the EF.

apologies for all the posts. My finger apparently "stuttered" on the post, and the computer took it literally!
