For those of you with IRA's...
For those of you with IRA's, where are they at? DH and I are both planning on opening one this summer, and I've just started to research online. I'm a little overwhelmed. There are just so many options - Fidelity, Vanguard, ETrade, ING, local banks. Where is you IRA, and have you had a good experience?

We have 457K's through our work. I think Vanguard is a really good one though.
I also hear Roth IRA's are best, but it depends on you and your family.

I have mine through Buyandhold.com.
Buyand hold is great. You can start an IRA or a brokerage account w/ $25 and add as little as $20 a month.
Basically, I just keep adding to it and let it snowball. I have all the dividends reinvested. You'd be surprised how much it adds up over time just putting in $25-$50 a month.
Also...their fees are very low. You can get 4 brokerage buys/sells a month for $8 I believe.
Good luck! It's worth checking out the web site.

I have my Roth IRA at Vanguard. Fidelity, T. Rowe Price and Vanguard are all good companies to open an IRA at. I have an index mutual fund, very low cost and fees and its doing pretty good so far.
Don't do like I did and get analysis paralysis. Do your research and open your account. If you don't like it after awhile you can always transfer it to another company or sell it and buy another mutual fund (if you go with a mutual fund) within the company you're invested with.“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

BIG fan of Vanguard here (that's where my Roth IRA is). My father recommended them to me when I wanted to open an account, and I have been extremely pleased with their customer service. They also have just about the lowest fees in the industry, mostly because they don't spend a lot in advertising. They pretty much invented the index fund and a lot of their philosophy is buy and hold, think for the long term - which I agree with.

I have my IRA through Fidelity in one of those target retirement date funds. Sort of discouraging for now since I contributed $300 on Friday and lost $255 of it by the end of the day! Feels like flushing $$ down the toilet right now.

I have mine through Ameritrade. Mostly because I used to work there and I'm familiar with how everything works with them. They have excellent research tools and I like that online stock trades are the same price.

"Fidelity, Vanguard"

Wanted to add there are plenty of "No Load" meaning
no fee mutual funds to invest your IRA retirement
saving. Do some reading, learn all the basics,
read the prospectus and then decide. You can do
this all on your own, we did.
Read Money magazine. They always have a special
issue about retirement investing.

i have a few at fidelity and I really like them. I like their low price fund but I think that one is closed to new investors. I heard they reopened Magellan fund and I did really good with that one before.I also have hartford with my husbands 401 k and i just started at another hospital and their 403b(401k for nonprofits) is with ING but do not know how they are yet.
