Hi! I'm not in the Asheville area but I am in WNC about an hour east of Asheville. My dream is to move closer to the Asheville area someday. What kind of info would you like? Grocery, thrift stores, etc. I may be able to let you know some of that since they have some of the same stores we have here.

Grocery stores that double coupons in that area are Ingles, Harris Teeter, and Bi-lo. I know Bi-lo has the least restrictions on coupons and they double to .60. Ingles doubles to 0.50 but for every 3 to double, you must spend $10. If you spend $30 dollars, you get 9 coupons doubled. This can work well with sells and such but I often find it hard to meet the requirements and still make it worth it. I'm not sure about Harris Teeter. I know our local store doubles to .99. Locally, they will only double 1 or 2 like coupons and they will not let you use 2 coupons for BOGO sales. The local management consider themselves the coupon police and I was very turned off to that store in the last triple coupon sale. I had strictly adhered to the rules they had and they still treated me like I was a criminal because I got several things free. Hopefully you will have a better management at your Harris Teeter. I do know that their prices seem to run a little higher than other stores, too. Of course this is all based on my experience here and not the stores in Asheville so I hope you will have a wonderful experience at all your stores. I would at least look into each one and see which one will be the best for savings. As far as other grocery stores, you will be able to visit the Western NC Farmers Market and depending on the season, they will sometimes be your best bet for fresh fruits and veggies. You will also have Grocery Outlet and a few more smaller markets there. By the way, to give you an idea of what prices will be, all three of these stores have websites and you can look over the current sales circular. Ingles-markets.com, harristeeter.com and bi-lo.com.
Thrift stores, I know of at least 2 Goodwill stores. I have always found good deals at both. One is near the mall on Tunnel Rd and the other in on 19/23 on the Enka side of town. I know there used to be a Salvation Army near the Civic Center in town but I don't think I ever found anything there. You will find smaller ones after you have been there and explored because I seem to find a new store everytime we go to Asheville.
As far a big box stores, you will have them all. Wal-mart, Kmart, and Target.
I hope this info is helpful and if I can be of further help, please feel free to ask.
