Age requirement for HSBC online account
Hi everyone! I just have a quick question for those who have an account with HSBC. Do you know what the age requirement is for opening an account? My son is saving money up for his after graduation trip next year and would like to open an account to earn more interest on his money. Right now he has $400 and still has over a year to save up so he could potentially make quite a bit of money off of interest (a lot more than a regular savings).
Thanks!

I used to work at a credit union and I think the age there to open an account of your own was between 16-18 years old. I know that you could open a joint account with him, if he doesn't meet the age requirement yet. At the credit union we required 2 forms of picture ID (driver's license and school ID would work). I would call or have him call ahead of time so that when he goes in to open his account he has the necessary ID and enough money to satisfy their minimum deposit requirements.

I hate that bank. I had nothing but problems with them. They cashed a check that was not written out to them for a payment on my dh's credit card, and they kept charging late fees for an account that we closed. The check was written out to our electric company. Somehow, I wrote the account number of the credit card on the bottom of the check in the notes part, and mailed it to the credit card instead of the electric company. I never did get that money back. They cashed it and put it on his account. I was pissed cause I was out over $100 for that month that I had not planned on spending. They even left the charge for the protection be charged to the card after it had been closed. So it took us 5 months to get it straight. They kept saying that they could not take the charge off because it went through another company. Our whole complaint was that they charged the account a week or two after it was closed so it was their fault. I will run far far away from anything having to do with that bank.
