Default I'm a Deadbeat and I'm Proud of It!

There is a thread on the frugal living forum at about.com about what the credit card companies call people who pay their credit cards off every month in full. They call us deadbeats! Can you imagine that. Credit card are not making any money of me. Ha! They make money off the poor souls who are up to their eyeballs in debt and the poor souls who are late with payments and are dinged with a $35.00 late charge every time.

Deadbeat here and proud of it! This month is particularly painful around $800 with our vacation rental on it.

You know what-Credit card companies do make money from people who pay off their balances off each month. Every time you use it, the store has to pay a percentage or a fixed amount when you purchase something at their store with a credit card.

Some companies in England are starting to charge a fee (usually around 1.2% of the charge) if you use a credit card. But no charge if you use a debit card. I've decided to just deal with cash or direct debit when I buy things off the English economy.

I think it's a risk/reward thing - yes, cc companies make money charging interest and late fees, but they lose money when the person holding the account defaults or declares bankruptcy.

I was actually stunned - last month was the first month that we couldn't pay our CC off in full (my MIL "gave" us a timeshare - with $700 maintainence fee due in Dec - so that's where the money went - but that's another separate rant) and the interest charges were only $9.37. We were able to pay it off in full this month, but I couldn't believe how low the charges were. We're not even in the introductory period anymore.

I think I'm probably worse than a deadbeat...I don't even use the cards at all, and they have 0 balances. I don't even know why I keep the accounts open. I guess just because I'm afraid to mess with my credit by closing accounts and such.

I'm sure the credit card companies really dislike people like me, lol.
