We have a 1400 sq ft ranch (3 bed 1 1/2 bath) on a 1/2 acre lot and will be paying $3000 this year for property taxes. For us our property taxes goes up $200 a year out of our pocket. After living here for 6 yrs they are saying our house has gone up 35k. (Which we would NEVER get for this house)

You can get a zero lot line home or a townhouse in a decent neighborhood for about $280,000, but the property taxes still come to a big chunk of change!

Our friends just rented a 3 bed/1 bath apartment for $950/month + electric (about $75/mo). Yup, renting or buying those property taxes get ya!

That's why we want to move eventually...we can't afford to live up here...
Thanks for the heads up!! We thought Michigan was bad and was thinking of moving to Alaska... guess not!

    You are welcome.

Our monthly payment is $912.00 and it includes our homeowner's insurance, property tax, PMI (soon to be gone I hope) and actual mortgage payment.

Don't even get me started on property taxes. We don't even have a backyard....just a partially fenced patio and we pay over $3000 a year!!

Wow! THat is a lot! I was balking at our taxes, about $3600 per year. We bought our house in March 2006 so we were unable to file for the homestead exemption until this year. We are still paying the higher tax, but were approved for the homestead exemption in January of this year, so I guess we will eventually get a refund? I don't know how that works.
