I just cant win.
So, as most of you know, I've been working really hard to get things straightened.
So, today I checked my bank account balance. -$106.
WHAT??? Im NEVER wrong on my bank balance. I knew it was low, but I never overestimate. I always know exactly what is there. Well apparently I overestimated by $.12. I spent twelve cents more than I had. So theres a $32 charge, and another $1.75 charge. That charge that pushed it negative? For $1.39. Well then a 99 cent charge goes in. So thats another $32 charge. And another $1.75 charge. Then a $1.59 charge goes in. So thats another $32 charge. And another $1.75 charge.
-$106.
I dont HAVE $106. I guess there goes the $70 I just earned selling books on Ebay, and most of my paycheck on Friday. Ill get $100 friday, and wont see any of it. Fabulous.
Its days like this that make me wonder why I even bother.

I hope things get better for you. It must have been very frustrating to see that you were charged so much because you were under by 12 cents. Did you try calling the customer service number at the bank. I used to work at a bank and sometimes if a person had never had a problem with their account in the past we would let something like this slide. I hope it works out for you.

When I was first married I was always having these charges due to some stupid math error. For the past 12 years I round everything up when I subtract it from the checking account. If I spend $22.07 at the store I will subtract $23, though I have just started rounding up even farther so the above amount would be subtracted as $25. When a deposit goes in I reduce. My last deposit was $829.48, I only added in $820. Over the years this has built up a good size buffer to where I don't have to worry about something bouncing and if we have a short month I know my buffer will cover stuff.

I am sooooo sorry! Is there anyway you can call the bank and ask them to take off the charges just this one time? Most banks will do it for you since they want to keep you as a customer.

Hopefully if you call the bank they will remove some or all of the charges if this hasn't happened before. Good luck. Sometimes they can be very helpful. I think if you approach them nicely they will do what they can for you.

I'm so sorry that happened.
I agree with the other ladies, call the bank and see if they will take the charges off. I also try to leave a buffer in my checking account.

Whoa darn!

I agree, call the bank and see if they will drop at least some of the charges.

I'm so sorry. I do like justpeachy does and round everything up. We have two checking accounts one I take care of and one my hubby takes care of. I have gotten him to rounding up also. We never have any problems this way and there is always a buffer in the accounts. Call the bank...

Been there and done that
I would think ONE charge of $32 should be sufficient... I'd request they credit you "in the interest of good customer service". If it hasn't happened within 1 year, they should (most banks have this policy). If they refuse, I'd look for another place to do business.
Tomorrow is a new day...

Okay, you made a mistake. You admitted it. Most of us have been there a time or two before. We all learned the lesson the hard way. What I would advise you to do is call your bank on Monday and ask to speak to a manager or a personal banker or whoever opened your account. Explain the situation, take full responsibility, say hey, I know I messed up, but I've never done this before, is there any way you can cut me some slack and refund some of the fees? 9 out of 10 times when a customer calls the bank I work with does this, they are refunded. Only time they aren't is if the customer cops an attitude or is a repeat overdrafter.
Personally, I would find another bank, even if they do refund the fees. Their overdraft policy is ridiculous. Our bank does not charge if you go negative and are only negative by 5 bucks. After that its a 28 fee, (fee just went up for the first time in three years, was 24) but we have a cap of only charging for the first items.
I'd reevaluate the bank.McD

dont let this deter you from you goals! You have a plan of action mapped out and you WILL succeed. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Mistakes happen to everyone. Call the bank and discuss it nicely to see if they can eliminate or reduce the fees. Then try to keep a small buffer amount in the account in case of a math error. Good luck

I wouldn't stay with a bank like that, either. I stick with my local credit union. They're great. Every bank I tried in the past made errors and tacked on charges to almost everything.

Just to second everyone elses feelings: CALL THE BANK!
I had a negative charge recently by less than $2, I called and argued it and they took off the charges. Of course I had the problem because of their online internet error they had..but still, call and argue. Even if they don't give you the credit back, at least you tried.

Ok, now what I'm wondering is...for those of you that do round up your purchases, do you keep track somewhere else how much you've rounded up & how do you keep track of it? Thanks
