Is Suze Orman Out of Touch?
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...utOfTouch.aspx
Here's an interesting article to think about. I read a lot of MSN Money articles and I usually enjoy reading the readers comments, but even I was impressed that they have 38 pages of comments on an article that is only 3 hours old.
I also think that a lot of what this article says applies to Dave Ramsey too, but I haven't read any of his books so I don't feel knowledgable enough to really defend this position with factual information.Loving wife to DH (8/31/03) and Mommy to Owen Alexander (9/20/06)

Sorry if I'm blind, but where are the comments? Do you have to be signed into MSN to see them?

Thank you for the article. I watch Suze Orman almost every Saturday and I agree with a lot of the comments people wrote on the message board. I like to watch her for tips for basic savings and how she talks people out of making unwise money decisions and her reasons behind it. She's the one I was watching 3 1/2 years ago when the lightbulb went off that I couldn't keep living the life I wanted if I couldn't afford it. Thanks to her I downsized to a studio apt. to save money, even when other's (my family and friends) thought I was crazy. It worked out for me and I was able to put more money towards my cc debts and not charge food anymore. She was the only voice of money reason I had in my life at that time. I feel more in control of my finances now, and a big part of that reason is the advice she gives to the average Joe or Jane. I don't know that I have ever really heard her make claims to be a big investor or advise others very often to invest big. I think she deals with basic money issues that people are dealing with, at least on her Saturday night program.

I have never listened to Suse Ormen but I am just now reading Dave Ramseys total money makeover and he says right in the book that he really isn't saying anything new. But he is just trying to get people to listen and understand. Someof his book is almost condasending (sp?) but even so it has opened my eyes to what we need to be doing with our money. Of course we will never be at the level that some people are but I am just looking toward getting older and having money then. This living week to week is rediculous.

Suze Orman is the first financial person that I actively read and watched and she made me begin to watch my finances a little more carefully. If I had a net worth of $27 million, I might do things differently as well.

It was an interesting article. Like others, I like the way she talks people out of bad decisions. It wasn't until I caught her show a few times that I began to look at the emotional reasons I was doing certain things. That for me was a great eye opener. As for investing in "safe" options, I don't see it as being hypocritical.
On the Dave Ramsey thing- same thing. He is very open about thinking things through without the emotional component as that can cloud your judgement. I get the basics of finance, but my heart will get me in trouble more often than not.Nana to Logan, Ryver, Robbie, Grant and Dennis
