Default At what age did you become frugal with your money?

At 27, I realized I'm not getting any younger. I've also had the same job for 6.5 years and don't have much to show for it with the money I've earned working there. So, I've been following Dave Ramsey's advice and other books on frugal/simple living which I've learned a lot on being frugal and working my way to become debt-free.

I'm pretty sure I was born frugal. Of course I'm frugal for different reasons now, but I've never been a shopper or spender.

When i got my first job, and everyone wanted my money!!!! I was 15, and had put everything i made except gas money for my folks into a savings account, which i promptly spent on a car when i got my license, and clothes lots of clothes for when i got married (at 18), most of which i still own and wear.

I grew up very poor and my family was very frugal. When I got outta the house and had my own money, well lets just say that for a few years I was stupid!! But it didn't take me long to figure out that being in debt up to my eyeballs wasn't for me...so I went back to my parent frugal ways and I have been there ever sense. Blessings...Kathy

I realized when I turned 26 years old that I needed to change the way I viewed money. I downgraded my apt. and really started using credit sparingly. I am still working on ways to be more frugal in my life and enjoying the journey along the way .

I grew up poor and was acutely aware of it. Even though DH and I always made good money, I lost a lot of years filling up a hole in myself with "stuff". I actually bought TWG when I was 18 and just starting out on my own, but it didn't really click until the last year or so.

It's been only a few months, I think it's the third month for me being frugal. I wanted to get out of credit card debt so that we could buy a house someday (in the next year). Also wanted to stop working my current job and do something else which would make me earn less unfortunately. But yeah, I was 26 when I became frugal.

It was after I married my second husband. We both had a combined $60,000. in credit card debt, no savings and nothing to show for it. Went to credit Hell and learned the money lessons the hardway.
Now we have savings, limited debt and payment plans.

I was in my 30's now I can say I sure wish I had figured it out a long time ago. I did not grow up on a frugal house. If you wanted something we charged it. My mom never let me know to much about money.

I'm 23 and well, I'm still not frugal, was for a brief period and now I'm back to spending money. I think I need to really change myself...

I've always been frugal, but when dh was diagnosed with ALS, I became hard core frugal. That was at age 31.
