Let's talk about ING
It seems that everywhere I "go" on the net with regard to frugality I see people using ING. I went to their website and took a tour, but I would love to hear about your personal experience with them.
Please?!

Right now, I'm not too impressed, but I'm in a different country so maybe they're a bit more on the ball in the states. I was supposed to get a bonus for signing up on a referral, plus bonuses for 2 other people that I referred, and I didn't get anything. Now I hear that I have to call them with the client numbers of the people I referred in order to get my bonus. That isn't information that I have, nor is it information that I want to have, so I won't be getting my referral bonuses.
Plus, I hated that I had to call to 'activate' my account, which is really just an excuse to get you on the phone so that they can try to sell you every single product that they offer. I suppose you get that everywhere though.
Other than that, transfers are convenient and the interest rate is good, so I have no complaints about the account itself. But my 'real' bank has a high interest online account now, so we will be switching to that one.

I love ING. They have really great customer service first of all. Secondly, no bank around me has even attempted to compete with their interest rates. Plus they're website is very user friendly, and if you do have to call customer service you never ever have to talk to a machine. (Unless you call after hours.) That's one of my biggest peeves with Wamu, I am on the phone for 20 minutes until I actually get to speak to a real person.

I love the ING. I have a regular orange savings right now and am planning on opening up a Electric Orange checking account as well for my home repair fund. The interest rate is great, it keeps my money tucked away, but still accessible if I need it. The website is extremely easy to understand and navigate.

I havn't had any problems with my ING account either. Love their interest rate too lol.
I also love the fact that you can have sub-accounts. I have an emergency fund as well as a freedom account with them and I could add more sub-accounts if I wanted too or had money to fund them
LOL!

I liked it while we had one. They were helpful the few times that Philip had to call. We switched to a different internet bank that had a few other things that we like, plus their interest rate was a bit better.

I love ING! Have been using them for a year and half for my emergency fund, it's pretty simple to transfer and navigate the site.
I've also opened another savings subaccount for sinking funds, I set it up to transfer money automatically to cover my sinking funds. Whenever those irregular bills comes due I will just transfer them back to my bank account and write a check.
Recently I openend an Electric Orange account, I use it to pay my bills, it's free. I've also set it up to automatically transfer a set amount every payday and keep an extra payday amount worth in there, so I pay the bills when they come due and don't have to worry about it anymore.
Plus, with the electric orange you get a debit card. If you needed quick funds from your emergency fund you can use the debit card. Since my emergency fund is in a regular savings account with ING I would just need to get online, transfer money from my savings account to the electric orange account (you can transfer money within ING itself and it's instantaneous, to move it to a bank takes days) and can use the debit card in an emergency. I liked that, since it's kinda a hassle to get online, log in, move money over, it's not like I'll use the debit on a whim, kwim??
Bring on them baby steps...
Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
Step 5: grown child
Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
Step 7: ahhhh....

I have a small account at ING that I opened to get the new customer bonus of $25 that they were offering at the time. It is ok and I have no complaints, but I have my principal savings accounts with HSBC Direct and Emigrant Direct. I find their customer service is just as good and the interest rate is consistently higher.

Hey, thanks for all these great reviews! I'll probably end up opening a small account, perhaps along with an electric orange.

Another fan of ING here. I got the referral bonus of $25 when I signed up in 2004. Easy to use website, love the automatic transfers. I've never had to call them or contact customer service, so I can't speak for that. I know that their interest rate is not the highest out there, but it's competitive with other online banks and sure beats all the banks are here. I would recommend them highly to anyone looking for an online account. They have never called trying to sell me anything, although maybe every 3 or 4 months we get a postcard in the mail advertising their mortgage program.

I love Ing. I do automatic deposits each month. I have received a signing bonus and referral bonuses and had no trouble with that. I called their customer service once and they were very polite and helpful.
