Default The transmission went out on the van

Which happens to be the only vehicle that the whole family can fit into. $3200 for a new one. It will be ready on Tuesday and we will put it on the CC. However that will be due in early August and we have to come up with the $3200 before then. Dh is off for the summer (he is a teacher) and is getting a job pronto. We are both doing everything we can to raise the money as fast as possible.

Before this we have spent $4500 on car repairs since November. I can't believe it and it makes me sick to think of all that money that could be in savings for a new car. It totally sucks that this happened. The van is 6 years old and only has $77,000 miles on it. The extended warranty ran out at 73,000 miles.

I havae to really focus on making money and spending as little money as possible to take care of this. This board offers such great support that I know it will help get us through.

We had just paid off our beast(van)...the only vehicle that we can all fit into...our ONLY vehicle.lol.and...BAM...the doggone thing crapped out.We have to replace the entire engine. Its going to cost nearly $5,000 *gulp*.So....with heavy hearts, we had to apply for a loan.....no way of getiing around it.We thought that we were finally crawling out of the hole & now this.GGGRRRR. We'll get through this....I believe you will too.

That's a lot of money. But you can do it. Hang in there, we are all in the same boat! ( or van )

Sorry to hear about you van troubles, Jennifer and Manyhouseapes. This seems to be the month for expensive car repairs all around. I hope both y'all's vehicles are back to running soon.

Sorry for all of your car troubles. I understand. I had just paid off my car and someguy hit me. The insurance company is only going to give me half of what I paid, so now I have a car payment again.

I'm so sorry!!! We will cheer you on and brainstorm with you though. Your sure in the right place for that. Thats alot of $ to come up with but we are all pulling for you. Itotally understand how sick you feel. 77000 miles sure doesn't seem like alot for a trans to go out. If you don't mind sharing what type of van is it?
We spent 444 on maintence before vacation and had a trans seal blow while gone to the tune of 1106. My car got hit but will be paid for. Dh's car got hit also but it looks like that will not be paid for by the hitter. Ugh. I'm finding sharing the details/plan here and in my blog helps.

I see that you write articles on your blog. One thing you can do is submit your articles to Associated Content which will pay you for the articles. Depending on the demand they will pay you anywhere from $3.00 to $20.00 per article. I haven't written one yet but know several people from different boards where I posted who have made money there. Worth a shot. Every little bit helps.

Sounds like us as well. We spent several thousand on the van since November and finally called it quits last week and opted for a van payment. I was adamant against it at Christmas, but now wish we had bought the new van then!

Thanks Kay for the info, but I already get paid for the articles through hub pages so I can't submit them somewhere else as well. Thanks though!

Is your van by chance an Odessey? We have a 2001 with a little over $80,000 and our transmission went out a few months ago. Luckily, the Odessey's transmissions were recalled and we got it replaced at no charge. Check with you local dealer (no matter what make your van is) to see if there has been a recall. You may get lucky!

It is a Ford Windstar. We were 5,000 miles past the warranty.
